Rules

These files don't list places, they decide. And every decision starts in the same place: a venue's rating on its own says nothing — you need to know where it sits among its peers.

The rules below came from there. Each was measured in a city, each carries its evidence, and each holds independently of the city. You can read this page without opening a single file — this is where the real accumulation is.

Rule no. 01

A rating lies on its own.

Crowds go to the most-reviewed, not the highest-rated. When two places share a category, the one with the bigger sign usually rates below the smaller one.

Antonio Sorbillo — 4.8 · 6,304 reviews · Via dei Tribunali 38
Gino e Toto — 4.5 · 31,019 reviews · Via dei Tribunali 32
Distance between them:: 23 metres

Born in file: no. 01 · Napoli

Rule no. 02

One kitchen, two doors.

If a good place has a queue, check whether it sells the same thing through another door. A market stall, a takeaway counter, a second address.

Chez Thérésa — 4.4 · 1,344 reviews · 28 Rue Droite
Chez Thérésa · Cours Saleya pazar tezgâhı — same kitchen, same price, no queue — until 13:30

Born in file: no. 02 · Nice

Rule no. 03

A rating doesn't know the conditions.

Two places with the same rating are different decisions under different conditions. Wind, hour, season — this is the axis a rating cannot see.

Alyko + Hawaii — 4.6 · 3,839 reviews · Alyko, güneybatı ucu
Plaka — 4.6 · 1,277 reviews · Plaka, batı kıyısı
Rating difference:: 0.0

Born in file: no. 03 · Naxos

Rule no. 04

A climb is a filter.

Elevation isn't only a cost; it also decides who shows up. The viewpoint you reach easily is full, the one a hundred metres above it is empty.

Senhora do Monte — 4.8 · 29,031 reviews · 97 m climb
Santa Luzia — 4.6 · 43,012 reviews · 50 m climb
Elevation difference:: 47 metres

Born in file: no. 04 · Lizbon
